Emotional/Nervous system states

What Is Nervous System Regulation?

Your autonomic nervous system runs in the background, managing everything from your heart rate to your digestion to your emotional responses. When it’s working well, you can move fluidly between states—activated when you need to be, calm when it’s safe. When it’s dysregulated (often due to trauma, chronic stress, or the stress of being neurodivergent in a world that isn’t built for you), you can get stuck: always anxious, always exhausted, emotionally reactive, or emotionally flat.

Signs of Nervous System Dysregulation

Difficulty calming down after stress, feeling permanently ‘on edge’ or hypervigilant, emotional numbness or feeling disconnected from yourself, physical symptoms without a clear medical cause (headaches, gut issues, fatigue), trouble sleeping, sensory overwhelm.

This Is Brain-Level Change

Nervous system regulation isn’t just about thinking differently or managing your reactions—it’s about changing the baseline state of your physiology. The work we do is designed to give your body new reference points for what ‘calm’ and ‘safe’ feel like.

How I Help

The use of a combination of spinal adjustments (which directly influence the nervous system via the spinal joints and spinal cord), intentional somatic work that invites the body into a calmer state, breathing and awareness practices taught in-session, and hands-on techniques informed by CranioSacral Therapy, Chiropractic principles, parts-integration work, and the work of several writers in somatic, including Ron Kurtz (founder of Hakomi Method) and Peter Levine (founder of Somatic Experiencing).
