Postural Correction in San Francisco

What Is Postural Correction?

Postural correction… is actually a bit of a misnomer! Your posture isn’t incorrect, but rather is correctly trying to protect you from things that have happened… but may not be happening anymore. Therefore, our approach begins by identifying and addressing the ways your body has adapted its alignment and movement —often in response to pain, stress, past injury, or habitual patterns. Common postural issues include forward head posture, rounded shoulders, anterior pelvic tilt, collapsed arches, and asymmetrical loading.

Posture Is Not Just a Habit

People are often told to ‘just stand up straight’—as if bad posture is a character flaw. In reality, posture is a nervous system phenomenon. Your body adopts postures that felt safe, manageable, or protective at some point. For trauma survivors, that might mean a collapsed chest that shields vulnerability. For neurodivergent folks, it might mean sensory-driven movement patterns that look like ‘bad posture’ but are actually adaptive.

How We Work With Posture

We begin by understanding why your body has organized itself the way it has—not just where it’s misaligned. Adjustments restore structural alignment. Somatic work helps the nervous system stop reflexively returning to old patterns. Take-home exercises build new postural habits that actually stick.

Who This Is For

People with chronic neck or upper back tension from desk work or screens, those who’ve been told they have ‘poor posture’ without a real solution, trauma survivors whose body bracing affects their alignment, neurodivergent clients whose sensory experience shapes how they hold their bodies.
